Ashes of the Singularity II factions

Sources checked Steam store page, 6 Nov 2026. Stardock posts dated 21 Nov 2025, 3 Dec 2025, 24 Dec 2025, 16 Feb 2026, 25 Feb 2026, 26 Mar 2026, and 14 Oct 2026. Oxide art journal, 2025.

Quick answer

Three factions fight in Ashes of the Singularity II. Instant Action and multiplayer let you command any of them. The campaign casts you as a United Earth Forces commanding officer.

The United Earth Forces are the human alliance: weaker per unit, larger armies, and the only faction described as fielding ground infantry. A complete UEF stat card was not in the articles checked.

The Post-Human Coalition uploads human minds into machines. The 16 February 2026 reveal prints three unit cards — Commander, Hyperion, and Nemesis — including health and damage. Those figures are pre-release and unconfirmed in a launch client.

The AI Substrate are Haalee’s machine forces. The 26 March 2026 reveal gives them regenerating shields, drone swarms, and three named units: Hatchling, Reaper, and Overmind. It does not print their health or damage.

Steam’s store page says each faction has its own units, strategies, and philosophy. The campaign is humanity’s story. Skirmish and multiplayer open all three. How regions, Turinium, and supply lines work is on the strategy guide. This page is who fights, and which unit names an official post actually printed.

United Earth Forces

The 14 October 2026 release announcement says the nations of Earth formed the United Earth Forces after falling behind the Post-Human Coalition and the AI Substrate. They are “outmatched in technology and weaker unit for unit,” and they lean on large armies, disciplined infantry, and historical military practice. The store’s campaign pitch matches that: you are a commanding officer taking the solar system back.

The 21 November 2025 alpha preview calls the UEF a unified command of the United States, China, Russia, the EU, Australia, Japan, Korea, and others. Its screenshot captions name tanks, mechs, soldiers, a recon drone, and a German Leopard 4 tank as “state-of-the-art early in the conflict.” That Leopard line is an alpha-journal example. It is not a promise that the name ships unchanged on 10 November 2026. The same preview says one blue force in an Outback shot is mercenaries hired by the PHC, still using UEF-style units, and that the UEF is hunting a PHC Nexus in a Siberia shot. Nexus is named. Its build cost is not.

Oxide’s art journal on the UEF (the “Actors of War” post) describes the look, not the balance: treads, wheels, and jet engines, blocky silhouettes, and a “tough turtle” read — slow, hard to crack. Treat that as art direction.

Public unit coverage that stays inside article text, not a transcribed video:

  • The 24 December 2025 showcase post says the first UEF video covers “the first set of military units” and a doctrine of superior numbers. It does not name the units in the article.
  • The 25 February 2026 second showcase says the UEF range “from deadly fighter jets to enormous armored dreadnaughts.” Those are categories, not a stat line.

The 3 December 2025 FAQ is the clearest rules text: Earth is the faction with ground infantry. The PHC and Substrate do not get a matching infantry unit. The UEF roster is new; it is not a port of the first game.

Post-Human Coalition

Steam’s story text says Post-Human technologists converted the Moon’s surface into Turinium, that the United Earth Congress formed in response, and that you — as the Coalition — are trying to stop both human governments and Haalee. The 16 February 2026 faction reveal says the Coalition began as elites who uploaded their minds. Some still want a deal with biological humans. Some see themselves as a separate ruling species. Before the split, they used Haalee’s knowledge. After it, they adapted the weapons in case that knowledge had been compromised. The reveal says some first-game assets return with changes.

The same post prints three notable units. These are the card values from 16 February 2026, four months before the announced launch. They are not a measurement from a 10 November client.

The reveal also says a Next Fest demo (23 February to 2 March 2026) let players use UEF or PHC. That demo is over. It is not the 10 November build.

AI Substrate

Steam calls them the overwhelming machine faction led, in the story text, by Haalee. Her stated goal in that text is to keep Post-Humans from wrecking her plans and to keep humans on Earth. The 26 March 2026 reveal says Substrate are fragments of Haalee’s consciousness, a machine civilization rather than uploaded humans, and that she broke with the Post-Humans because their expansion could trigger a “Second Singularity.”

On the battlefield, that post says two mechanical differences and nothing numeric:

  • Shields regenerate by themselves, shortly after damage, instead of needing a repair stop.
  • Drone swarms reward aggression: hit-and-run, constant pressure.

Featured units in that article:

UnitWhat the 26 Mar 2026 post saysRecruited from
HatchlingSmall quadruped swarmer. Spawns from clutches of eggs. Role: Swarm.Assembly
ReaperFrontline armored hovercraft with a plasma launcher. Role: Frontline.Auxiliary Assembly
OvermindHeavy fire-support hovercraft that deploys drone swarms. Role: Midline.Apex Replicator

The FAQ’s drone line sits next to this: Substrate swarms are closer to autonomous projectiles than to soldiers. Later Substrate showcase posts (8 April 2026 on shields and drones, 22 April 2026 part 2) exist as videos. Their article text does not add health or damage, so this page does not invent a second table.

How the three are supposed to meet

Read the official qualitative lines together. They are a counter sketch, not a win-rate:

  • UEF brings more bodies, including infantry, and is weaker per unit (14 Oct 2026 and the 3 Dec 2025 FAQ).
  • PHC brings fewer, costlier, stronger units, including the printed Hyperion and Nemesis roles (16 Feb 2026 and the FAQ).
  • Substrate brings regenerating shields and drone swarms instead of a human infantry line (26 Mar 2026 and the FAQ).

Supply is the shared counter, described on the guide: a forward factory dies as a reinforcement source if the region that powers it is cut. That sentence is from the November 2025 alpha preview, not from a timed match on this site.

No official post checked here ranks the three factions. Do not treat the PHC card’s damage column as that ranking.
